Rosacea Triggers
Written by David Potter
Rosacea affects each person differently. As a result the treatment for Rosacea can be exclusive and different for each person. While scientists haven’t been able to determine one major cause of the disease, they have been able to identify several different contributing factors. The only way to really determine if a person is suffering from Rosacea is to see a doctor or dermatologist. They will not only be able to determine if you actually do have Rosacea, but can help to pinpoint what caused the condition to develop. Once the cause of the disease is determined it’s much easier to treat and control future outbreaks.

Many people have different triggers that can cause outbreaks to occur. Determining what these triggers can help people to adjust their lifestyle or diet accordingly. One of the most common triggers for all sufferers is stress. Everyone’s body reacts differently when stressed. While this hasn’t been scientifically proven to be a cause of Rosacea, it can’t be completely ruled out either. Many people that suffer from this disease have found that by controlling their stress levels they experience few outbreaks.

Decreasing the stress levels in a person’s life also has other benefits to Rosacea sufferers. As their stress levels go down and the outbreaks stop occurring, they won’t worry about it as much. This makes the stress go down a bit more. Studies have shown that people with low stress levels are generally healthier than those with high ones. This will help the body fight of any problems including Rosacea.

Exposure the elements are widely known to be the cause of many skin conditions and Rosacea isn’t any different. People with Rosacea can experience outbreaks anytime they are exposed to very, cold, or windy weather. This causes the skin to become irritated making it much more likely that an outbreak will occur. Other extreme temperature changes can also be triggers. A place such as a sauna or walk in freezer can make an outbreak occur.

Anyone that drinks alcohol for a prolonged period of time can develop a reddish look in their face. For anyone that suffers from Rosacea the effects can be even worse than normal. These people will have an increased length of time that their face is red causing more damage to the blood vessels. Eventually if left untreated little spider lines will begin to appear from the prolonged damage. It’s best to try to avoid developing these lines in the first, since that is much easier than trying to get rid of them later.

Everyone knows that exercise is very good for the body. It increases your muscle tone, stamina, and immune system. However, for people with Rosacea it presents a unique problem. The sweat that the body produces during exercise will actually become an irritant to their skin. For people with have Rosacea and love to exercise they might find the best option is to break up their sessions into smaller blocks of time. With some trial and error they can find a routine that will work for them which allows them to get the exercise they desire without causing an outbreak.

Anyone that has this condition and really loves hot and spicy foods won’t like this trigger. Hot and spicy foods are known to cause the blood vessels to dilate. This will cause more blood to flow through them making the affected area flush. Another item to be sure to avoid is caffeine. Caffeine can be found in some of today’s most popular things like coffee, chocolate and soda. It can be hard to give up these foods for someone that really enjoys them, but it may be necessary to prevent further flare ups.

Cosmetic products are also known for causing Rosacea outbreaks. Virtually all of them contain some sort of harsh chemical that isn’t good for you skin. Make sure to find high quality natural products that are easy or soothing for the skin. Also avoid anything that is rough or abrasive on your face. These will only aggravate the skin making the Rosacea worse. Try a good moisturizer instead that contains aloe or other natural extracts. Many of these have qualities that nourish and encourage the skin to heal.

Just about everyone that has Rosacea has to work out the triggers of their outbreaks themselves. A doctor can pinpoint certain causes, but if it is diet or lifestyle related it’s usually up to you. By carrying a diary you can log when your outbreaks occur and any other external factors. This will allow you to monitor everything so you can eventually get rid of the triggers in your life.

Knowing the triggers to a Rosacea outbreak is only one part of living with this condition. Anyone that thinks they might have Rosacea needs to seek professional help from a dermatologist. Only they can recommend the best course of treatment for your particular needs. Be sure to discuss any natural methods that may be able to help you. These are safe alternatives to other more expensive procedures and may be just the thing to help you get your Rosacea under control.
