It’s not easy for people to live with Rosacea. This condition makes their faces red, their eyes itchy and gritty, and is just unpleasant all around. When looking for treatment they are usually told that the answer they seek is found in a pill or cream. Actually there are many other things that contribute the health of a person’s skin. Many people with Rosacea discover that simple changes to their diet can reduce or cure many of their symptoms. There are several foods that can be added to their diet to reduce the redness and make you start looking and feeling better in no time.

The easiest thing to start eating healthier is to make the move to fresh fruits and vegetables. A diet full of berries, including blackberries and cherries will help the blood vessels to shrink. Smaller blood vessels mean that there is less blood flowing through the skin reducing the redness. Berries can just be tossed into the cereal you have for breakfast. They also contain antioxidants that will make you body healthier in general. Another good idea is to get rid of the coffee or tea. Hot drinks can cause outbreaks to occur in some people so it’s best just to avoid them. Try a glass of juice instead. It will provide you with more vitamins and minerals to get the day started with.

Everyone loves to have a nice, big, fatty hamburger. Unfortunately, the high fat content isn’t good for people with Rosacea. It’s another known culprit of outbreaks. Instead of having beef try a leaner form of protein such as pork, fish or chicken. Some of the more exotic meats such as Buffalo and Elk are also excellent choices. These meats are extremely lean and have a lot of taste. Tofu is also another easy option for people. It’s also very versatile and can be used in just about any dish.

Whole grains are also an extremely important part of any healthy diet. Making the switch from foods made with refined flour such as traditional white breads and pastas will have a tremendous impact on their overall health. It’s much better to choose grain breads, whole wheat pastas and seeds will help to make the Rosacea symptoms decrease.

Since alcohol already makes a person face turn red it’s essential for people with Rosacea to avoid it. The alcohol will only exasperate the problem. Prolonged alcohol abuse will cause permanent damage to the blood vessels. The worse shape the blood vessels are in the redder your face will be. It’s not only the alcohol that can cause the flare ups. Many times it’s what the drink is mixed with. Soda, coffee, and certain juices are able to cause flare ups on their own. By mixing the two the effects will be worse. If you would like an occasional drink you’ll be happy to know that a jigger of gin, vodka or whiskey when mixed with six ounces of cold water are the least likely to cause a Rosacea outbreak.

Spicy and hot foods have also been known to cause flare up in Rosacea sufferers. For the person that truly loves spicy dishes this can be hard to give up. The chemicals in the spices can cause digestive problems that cause flare ups to occur. By eliminating these, the digestive problems will disappear causing few Rosacea outbreaks. Known culprits include items like cayenne, chili, red, or white pepper, curry and salsa.

To discover what your personal triggers are you need to monitor everything that you eat. By keeping a journal you can track all the food and any reactions that you have. As you begin to see what’s causing your outbreaks the offending items can be removed from your diet.

Not all fruits and vegetables are good for Rosacea either. There are some that will cause flare up to occur. The only way to know is to try them and note it in your log. Other products that need to be approached with caution include liver, vinegar and soy sauce.

One of the healthiest things anyone can do for their skin is to drink a lot of water each and every day. Water helps the skin to stay moist reducing irritation. The average person needs to drink at least ten-eight ounce glasses of water each day for proper hydration. Water also helps the skin to repair itself by carrying nutrients to the skin while also sweeping away the waste. For people with Rosacea it’s essential that they drink as much water as possible to help combat the symptoms of the disease.

With a little trial and error anyone that suffers from Rosacea can discover they are not only suffering from fewer outbreaks but feeling better overall. A healthy diet is a great place to start for anyone that wants to look and feel their best.
